The Mouse BT

I'm sure I'm not the only one that's been waiting for this, MacMice seem to have finally set a date for shipping their new three button bluetooth mouse. It'll be on the shelves by the 5th of October.

I have an Apple Wireless Mouse and I love it, it's sleek, reliable, works flawlessly, and of course it's wireless. But it's only got the one button, and when I'm running X11 applications it would be really handy to have a more normal three button mouse. The MacMice Mouse BT looks just as sleek as the Apple mouse it's imitating, but it has those three buttons. I'm looking forward to getting my hands on one...

Keep waiting. I received my Mouse BT and I'm quite disappointed. It certainly does not feel like a $70 mouse. It looks great, but feels cheap. The clear top cover functions similarly to the Apple mouse only with a second button. The problem is that the clear cover does not operate smoothly. It actually hinders the right button by sliding out of position.

To add further insult to injury, the mouse will only pair with my PowerBook once every few weeks (yes, on a fresh set of batteries). Most of the time it simply did not turn on. I notified the DV Forge support department, and after treating me like an idiot, they decided to replace it. After four weeks, I still hadn't heard anything from them. I phone call revealed that they didn't have any replacements in stock and nor could they tell me when they would. It seems as though they are always out of stock of what I would assume would be a number one selling product for them. (You can only sell so many stands and plugs, right?)

I know it's annoying to hear because this is the mouse that everyone was waiting for, but I would say keep waiting for Apple to release a BT version of the Mighty Mouse (if that will happen) or find another mouse.
